This is a really busy time of year for our elementary program. The first student-produced Orchard Press newspaper is about to roll off the press. Please pick up a copy in the front hall. Later this week, we will sprout some seeds for a three sister planting in the gardens at school and were so excited to see that our tomato plants had sprouted over the weekend. In June, we will be working for a day at Fresh City Farms and learning about how a farm operates. In the meantime, we are taking our biology curriculum back out to the forest to work with the High Park Nature Centre over the next eight weeks.
Today, we broke ground on the river project. This project is working river model that connects to classroom work on geology, botany, zoology and water/landforms, the water cycle and even the first great lesson (the coming of the universe). We will be posting photos of the process over the next few days as the children continue to work with artist Andree Weismann who has set up a temporary studio in the school.
Next week, we start work on the cosmic plan for bread. We will go out in the community and bring back our observations. Bread will provide context to connect to math, language, geometry, geography and history. We will be documenting these 32 presentations in a book to share as well.
Stay tuned!
