Yesterday, we went to visit Prairie Boy Bakery. Grant was extremely generous with his time and taught the children how to make sourdough loaves and spoke to them about the flour they use, the history of grains and the particular nature of the starter. They were absolutely riveted and at the end of the day, he brought their finished loaves to school and they were delighted. Each child has been asked to get a bread story from a family member and we have begun sharing those in class, along with some pinwheel and checkerboard sandwiches in one case.
We also had our second ukulele lesson with Jonny. The children have learned a few chords and were happily strumming along.
Last Friday was our first Forest Friday of the spring season. The kids enjoyed seeing the changes in High Park and being out in the sunshine. They also made gifts for the birds of string to make their nests from.
Finally, the first edition of the student-written Orchard Press came off the press today. Get your copy while it’s still around!
