Today we gave the first of the six great lessons in elementary. The Coming of the Universe tracks time from the void before the Big Bang up until just before the archaebacteria abiogenesis. Each teacher writes his/her version of the lesson to transform it into a storytelling and includes a series of sensorial experiences and science experiments that explain the laws of physical science and properties of the earth. Over three hours today, Holly told the story while Katherine executed the 34 science demonstrations that introduce topics including states of matter and their properties, Newton’s laws, attraction, gravity, magnetism, density, viscosity, mass, the water cycle, tectonic plates, heliocentrism, thermodynamics, elements and atoms.
Over the coming weeks, we will go into the classroom lab to begin to investigate some of these concepts more thoroughly.
