Geocaching in Geography

October 27, 2014

IMG_4253Today our geography club completed their geocache. It is called The Never Ending Poem and it is awaiting approval for publication to www.geocaching.com

Last week, we checked out Johnnycash geocache in a nearby park. It turned out to be a straightforward geocache that was relatively easy to find and we added our pseudonyms to the list. This week, each student brought or chose two lines from a favourite poem. I must say they chose some good ones: Adrienne Rich, William Carlos Williams, Emily Dickinson, William Blake, Wordsworth and AA Milne. The children enjoyed hearing the poems so much that we chose one (“This is Just to Say”) to create a morning soundscape over which we read the poem. Then we added a few lines of each to a small handmade book that we have placed inside an Altoids tin. We will hide it near school property for you to go check out and find. If you go, though, go prepared with a few lines of your favourite poem to add into the book – or write your own!
