The whole school community turned out on September 21st in the Old Orchard playground to add wishes of peace to the fence around the school. A favourite wish was pickles….or was that prickles. It was a day to celebrate the larger community that the families of the children who are in care at the Old Orchard building bring to this space. It is a truly dynamic place.
Orchard’s elementary class began their six week series of Forest Fridays with the High Park Nature Centre. This term, we are working on a High Park nature guide with two other groups. We spent a blustery day Friday learning about leaves (shapes, arrangement on a stem, compound and solitary groupings) on the trees in the park. This is a great way to bring the Montessori botany curriculum to the source!
