On Sunday, the kids from Ma Maison visited Andrew’s Scenic Acres to pick a pumpkin for next week’s Hallowe’en party. We kicked off the day with a (gently) Haunted Walk in the trees where we met some other friends and saw some scary stuff.
Next we got a lift on the wagon out to the patch and had a great time hopping on rotting pumpkins, carefully measuring and selecting the perfect specimens for home and school as well. One of our little guys made the astute observation that a large overgrown pumpkin makes a perfect kid-sized table and promptly sat down to eat his snack. In true Montessori tradition, the older children guided the smaller ones through the patch, carefully instructing them in selecting a quality gourd.
Afterwards, the children enjoyed throwing themselves off a mountain of piled straw bales before heading home to the city. It was literally a perfect day in the country.
