This week at The Orchard Montessori Pioneer Camp we explored fun and games 1800’s style. We learned a lot about life in pioneer times and made balancing acrobats, dolls, and shadow puppets to take home. On Saturday we spent the afternoon outside in the orchard having a strawberry social. Strawberry socials were the time when people gathered to process the strawberry harvest and during these communal harvesting and cooking events, amusements were set up to keep the children entertained. Today we played ring jousting, bean bag toss and a new game we made that is sort of a cross between darts and shuffleboard. Looking forward to Monday’s trip to Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, built in 1840. There are still a few spots left in our last three weeks of camp so contact us if you want to join in the fun.
