April 1, 2014
Our series of winter classes wrapped up on Saturday with a our final yoga classes with Haley (where she led us on an outer space adventure)and the Group Show for our French Studio Class. Our six budding artists spent eight weeks studying the works of the masters formerly on display at the AGO. We studied the techniques and mediums of Kandinsky, Seurat, Monet, Duchamp, Chagall, Modigliani and Klee.
We hung the work in the hall and the children proudly showed off their collection to their families. It was surprising to me both how recognizable the works were as the artists studied but also the children’s interpretation of the world around them viewed through the lens of those artists. I think my favourites were the Chagalls because they were so rich in narrative.
Our next series of French Studio Classes are scheduled for the fall but we are looking forward to a special three week French Studio Camp led by Amandine Rufin, a practising artist from Paris.
