This week in Adventure Camp, we followed Jack and Annie from The Magic Treehouse series on their adventures in Tigers at Twilight. Due to the roof replacement at the school, we spent a lot of time on the road in the mornings and did our project work in a studio at Artscape Youngplace in the afternoons. We learned about a number of endangered species including langurs, Bengal tigers, elephants, rhinoceros, and pythons that live on the Indian subcontinent. We were treated to a spice tour in Gerrard India Bazaar, led by Chef Rodney Bowers where we learned about different spices used in Indian cooking after which we were treated to a fabulous feast in his home kitchen. The kids got to make their own masala mix to take home and sat down together to eat at a long communal table with all the trimmings. In studio, we made an ashoka charma (the wheel at the centre of the Indian flag which symbolizes 24 virtues) and tried our hand at rangoli. Christina Gapic shared with us her beautiful photographs and stories from her extensive travels in India and Haley took us on a trip to India with yoga and visualization. By the end of the week, our journals were filled with memories and musings. On Friday, we spent the day at the AGO.
Looking forward to Magic Camp next week!
