The Building is Saved

March 22, 2018

Mike Layton announced this morning that the TDSB ratified a recommendation to declare our building a core holding. Some of the children attended the press conference outside. When this all began three years ago, one of those children used to count the units, tens, hundreds and eventually thousands of names on the Save Old Orchard Now petition using math tickets each morning when she arrived at school. In the end, we got up to 1272 and that young girl, now eight, has moved on to dividing decimals. Throughout the three year long process, we were grateful to have a strong partnership with West End Parents and good guidance from Mike Layton, Ausma Malik and Marit Stiles. It was also important for the children to see that if you speak up for what you believe in and work together as a community, it can make a difference.
