Stories are Everywhere

IMG_0218IMG_0223IMG_0220This week, we’ve had lots of fun weaving our stories into the community quilt project. We also took a break on Wednesday to go visit Colborne Lodge in High Park. We learned about how ice was stored through the summer, heard the origin of the idiom “sleep tight”, and were regaled with tales of a daring lake rescue orchestrated by John Howard, architect and owner of Colborne Lodge. Most of all, we gained an appreciation for what life was like when Toronto had a population of 5000 people!  This afternoon, the children were treated to a very special garden tour by Sam from Westend Parents. Sam is well known to The Orchard children because he cooks the marvellous food they eat but this time he showed them the other side of his talents in the beautiful garden he is growing outside his kitchen door.
