Nutsy the Squirrel

Today we had a visitor at school. A squirrel came in through the window, dug a banana sandwich out of a student’s bag and proceeded to sit on the cubbies eating it before he was detected. Nutsy was here to remind us NOT to bring food into the school. Since we have many budding naturalists in our group, the squirrel drew a lot of attention. So did a dead rat (we only looked with our eyes!) in the parking lot. The children speculated on what might have caused its demise. In science class, we dissected a tulip and learned about its elaborate system of reproduction. The children have also been heard repeating the names of the five kingdoms and are busy classifying things in their environment such as their lunch, the ferns in the casa, Paul the Caretaker, a cold virus and the various creatures in the playground.
