This week we travelled back to the age of exploration and invention covering the 1800’s until the arrival of Beatlemania. There is so much to explore during this exciting time of innovation! We learned about a different invention each day that contributed to progress such as the telegraph, the light bulb, the Brooklyn bridge and the Eiffel tower. The elementary kids experienced Snap Circuit mania and spent every afternoon making light shows, FM radios and morse code machines with them. They also had to complete a daily Engineering Challenge. The casa kids made a Rube Goldberg/domino chain which they unveiled for all the students on Thursday to oohs and ahhs from their teachers and older peers. Friday morning, the elementary kids went to the CBC Museum where they learned about foley effects and radio programs that entertained the nation way before there was the internet (which was honestly difficult for them to imagine). Afterward, we went to check out the Beatles exhibit at the St Lawrence Market Gallery in honour of the 50th anniversary of their last concert here. We finished the week off with a spectacular illusionist who pulled some pretty naff sleight of hand on the teachers.
We are off to jump in a lake. See you in September!
